High Tech High Tiny HouseFor the Tiny House project I chose to be part of the kitchen group. The kitchen group was in charge of the sink, countertop and cabinets. This project has been one of the best so far. I learned a lot about Eco friendly materials and engineering ideals. I really enjoyed working on the measurements of the countertop cabinets because it was definitely a challenge for me. If I was given the opportunity to start this project from the start, some of the things I would do differently is to finish all my work before the due date and put more effort.

2nd Semester Field Outing 2This is the second time I volunteer at the San Diego River Garden. It has been such a great experience volunteering at this place. Once my partners and I arrived at the garden we were told to take a walk around to look at the plants that are in the garden. Two plants that I found to be very pretty and interesting were Sticks on fire and Golden Barrel. Sticks on fire is known as one of the most unique desert native plant. What caught my attention of this beautiful cactus is its structure and color. For most months the sticks on fire plant maintains an orange color. During winter it turns very red. Golden Barrel is such a pretty cactus that its easy to plant at home. One interesting fact I learned about the Golden Barrel is that it rots away easily. When we were done walking around the garden, Bob Forthun, the man in charge of the place, gave us a task. We were told to eradicate the weeds garden using a hula hoe weeder. It took us most of the two hours we were given to eradicate as much weeds as we can. This was the first time I learned how to use a hula hoe weeder and eradicate weeds. It is very important to kill the weeds because they suck up most of the water, not leaving enough water for the plants. When we killed as much weeds as possible from the trails, we picked them up and put them in a huge pile of dead weeds. Overall, I had so much fun helping out at the garden.

1st Semester Field Outing 2On Sunday I had the opportunity to go to San Diego's River Garden in Mission Valley with a friend. Since it was our first time volunteering at the garden we were told to take a tour in order to become familiar with it. At first I was imagining a huge garden and millions of plants and flowers, but once I took the tour I noticed that the garden was not as big as I expected it to be. It did not take my friend and I to walk through the whole garden and when we were back we were told to help and take out all the leaves from the rocks that fell of a tree. As we were about to begin with the work we were assigned the guy in charge, Taylor, told us to go and hang bird houses around the garden. When we were back from hanging the birds it did not take us log to clean the leaves that were stuck between the rocks and clean the path. We finished fifteen minutes earlier because the garden wasn't that big and it closed at Ten, two hours before we arrived.

Tomato HornwormThis project was a partner pair project where we had to brainstorm on invasive species that we would be interested researching more about it. The invasive specie that my partners and I chose was the Tomato Hornworm. Our first selection was the bullfrog but another team chose it before us and so the tomato hornworm was our second option. Once we got our specie we had to research and make a power point to present the class. There was a lot of interesting information about this specie, which made this work easier to finish. After we ended our power point and presented there were a few edits that had to be done. Besides all of this I enjoyed this project because I learned so much about the tomato hornworm.

MicropipetteToday in class we worked on a project that combined art with the use of micropipettes. This project was set to us in order to get more practice with the micropipettes. A micropipette is a better and fancier version of a medicine dropper or eyedropper. These micropipettes are used in laboratories to measure or get a specific amount of any liquid. I decided to make a butterfly because I believe that they are so beautiful. What I like the most about butterflies are their wings because that is what makes them even prettier. A butterfly represents peace in my life because they are so peaceful and fun to look at.

Life off the LandWithin this project we went to a lot of open land field trips in
San Diego to learn more about the uses, means and the history of native plants.
Each student from our team was designated a local plant to study on its
background information and uses of Spanish cultures. Once we all had chosen a
plant that we saw on the hikes and had written a fully English version we had translated
it into Spanish. Now this was easy for me because I knew how to translate most
of the things I have written in English. Since I got my work done on time I
volunteered to be on the editing board to help out others edit their papers in
order to publish out bilingual ethnobotanical field guide book called Plant To
Planta.

La PirinolaFor this project all Spanish III Honor students
would have the option to work in partners in order to make a fun activity for
the entire class. Since I chose to work with Anahi Aguilar it was mandatory for
us to make two activities for the semester. The purpose of the activities was
that the students of Spanish III honors would teach the class Spanish while
coming up with a fun activity. The Activity that my partner and I chose for our
first activity was the Pirinola game.

Personal Legend
For this project we were assigned to
read the book The Alchemist in order to be able to make a three page essay
on any personal legend that we might have experienced or it
could be a makeup story. My essay was made up story. Since I am
in Spanish III honors it was mandatory for me to read the book in Spanish
and the essay had to be in Spanish as well. With the essay we had to work on a
visual using three main components from your story. As you can see my visual is
an eye, a heart and a sword. Now if you read my story then you will know exactly
why I chose those three objects.

Home Remedy PosterThe Home Remedy Poster was a really fun project that helped us reflect on any home product that can be used in different ways. My home remedy was putting mustard on kitchen burns in order to prevent blister and it helps release pain in seconds. I really like this project because it made me realize how many things I have at home that have different uses. We had to make a poster of your home remedy and present it in a gallery walk.

Pyro MathThe purpose of this project was to make candles by learning how to find the surface area and the volume of all kinds of shapes. For this project the picture on the left is a slice of cake using a three dimensional triangle and half of a cylinder. When the calculations and the drawing of our product were finished we had to start building. My partner and I made our slice of cake with cardboard box. Know that our cardboard slice of cake was done it was necessary to tape it as much as you could in order to keep the hot wax inside the mold. When the hot wax was poured into the mold we put it in the freezer. Once it was done our slice of cake looked more like an ice cream cone, so we both decided for it to be an ice cream cone.

TRASH: The Science and Ethics of ConsumptionOnce we were done learning about these top three principles we were told to gather and utilize all the knowledge we gained to evaluate case studies related to overconsumption. The commodity I chose for the overconsumption project, part two, was water in Africa and I had to research the political, social connections, philosophical perspectives and come up with a realistic solution to my element. For the final product we all had to present everything we learned about our topic in order to have a panel discussion in exhibition night.

Philosophical LessonsOn the humanities side of this project I studied a variety of different ethnical and political systems through an engagement primary and secondary sources related to Utilitarianism, Libertarianism and egalitarianism all coming from the book Sandal. Learning and studying these philosophical principles was a challenge for me because it was really hard to identify myself with one of these principles because they all had different perspectives on what is right and what is wrong. TRASH: The Science and Ethics of ConsumptionOn the science part of this project everybody had to choose a commodity waste or a contemporary issue that is related to waste in our society to explore green or local alternatives. For this project we had to work in partners. My partner was Camille Gloster and together we came up with an alternative for the waste of grey, distilled, and purified water. The title of our experiment was Water Purification and the goal of this experiment was to determine whether grey, distilled or purified water makes wheat grass grow faster.

MandalaFor my mandala I decided to change the center of it because the chains that I draw on my first draft were not symmetrical. I tried re drawing my chains but I couldn't so I decided to draw small circles instead that would make it look symmetrical in a way. For my mandala I inscribed different shapes inside my circle. I drew different sizes of triangles and circles. I tried to make all my triangles isosceles so they would be the symmetrical to each other. I think for my third and final draft I should include more shapes, for example, trapezoids, Rhombus, parallelograms and many others to make my mandala better.

Alternative Energy CarFor the alternative energy car project everyone worked in groups of two and we had to design and build a model car which operated on solar and energy power. We also had to implement a circuit that that will allow the car's light to flash. Each car has to be design differently. My car was simple, it doesn’t have much details or it wasn’t as pretty as I wanted it to be but my partner and I got our car on the road.

Islamic TraditionFor this project my partner, Rachel, and I began researching on the Islamic tradition because it got us really interested and we believed that there was more to know about the Islamic Tradition. While researching we found so many facts and new things we had no idea existed. Our goal for this project was to teach the class about the Islamic tradition in twenty minutes. Our essential question was "What are the religious practices and traditions that define Islam?" Our objective was that after the lesson, the class will understand about some Islamic traditions, specifically their religious beliefs, and their dress code. This project was the most challenging because it took me great dedication and a lot of preparation. It also required a lot of responsibility and time management, which is some of the things I’m always struggling with.

One Act PlayFor the One Act Play Project, the class was pared up in groups of two based on the similar ideas that each individual had about the Art history presentations the class provided for us. I was partner up with Tatiana, and we decided to make our play on Abstract expressionism, more specifically on the harsh life of one of the most famous abstract artist Jackson Pollock. We decided to make our play on the sad life of Jackson because he was a great inspiration for both of us. Before we began writing our one act play we had to make a short synopsis and character bios. When the class was done writing the plays we had to pitch our play. Unfortunately, our play did not get voted on to get directed.

Solar EnergyThe Solar Energy project required a lot of
background information on the global energy crisis the world is facing. Our
teacher gave us the opportunity to pick our own partners and together we had to
solve an energy issue that was of great importance that could also be used on a
global scale. My partner was Jocelyn Rodriguez and together we made a good team
work. We were so into this project that we couldn't decide whether to make a
video or a photo essay; but we ended up creating a magazine of solar energy.
The reason why we didn't get an energy issue was because the topics ran out and
we were left to work on the solution. I am really proud I chose Jocie as my
partner because we always kept our ideas flowing. One thing that I really
enjoyed was working with her because we always combined the different ideas we
each had. Honestly, I thought that this project wasn't as fun as I thought it
would. Even though I didn’t enjoy this project as much, I learned many new
things that I didn't know.

Abstract ExpressionismThe Art History Presentation project was really enjoyable and fun. For this project we were told to choose and art movement that we were interested. My partner, Keisha, and I chose o study Abstract Expressionism because we thought that the art was awesome and we wanted to learn more about it. This project required a lot of group effort and I fell glad that Keisha was my partner because we both did equal amount of work. Working with Keisha was just wonderful because she cared about this project as much as I did and that felt great because we finished on time and earned a passing grade on our presentations. I would recommend Abstract Expressionism because there are a lot of things that you can learn.

Humanities Semester ReflectionFor the First semester of Humanities I had many accomplishments. To begin, I finished most of the projects and assignments that was given to me and I feel very proud of that. To go more in debt, the project that I’ve done this semester that I enjoyed the most and feel proud of was the Perspective Project, the last project in Humanities class. I felt that this project, besides being the most enjoyable, required a lot of work and responsibility. For this project we were given the option to choose any topic about the problems in society. The topic that I decided to learn about was how to prevent Teenage Pregnancy.

United States Energy TrendsI believe that this project was one of the hardest in Physics class. What we did to complete the project were a lot of things. Most importantly we did research on the timeline event. I choose two timelines instead of one because I wanted to earn extra credit. The first timeline that I researched on was about the discovery of oil in Alaska. I found many important and interesting facts about Alaska's oil discovery. My other timeline event was about the Environmental Protection Agency. Out of the two timelines, I enjoyed learning more about the Environmental Protection Agency. This topic was about protecting the environment and the ones that live in it. Also trying to prevent air and water pollution.

Blog Header PostThe Blog header was a project that we did in the beginning of the school year. The purpose of this project was to learn about Photoshop, the usual, and also to decorate our Multimedia Blogs. What I did in my project was search images in Google that interest you the most to update them in your blog.

Social AwarenessI felt that this project, besides being the most enjoyable, required a lot of work and responsibility. For this project we were given the option to choose any topic that relates to a social issue. The topic that I decided to learn about was Preventing Teenage Pregnancy. This topic struck me the most because I felt eager to learn more than what I know about teenage Pregnancy. I know this sound like the easiest topic, but I guarantee that there is a lot more to learn from. I’m telling this because after I made my research log and read it afterwards I was shocked by the information that I obtained. I also learned a lot while writing the essay. I learned how to make citations and give credit to the author every time we get information of a website. Meanwhile doing this project I had a lot of fun because when I was finished with my essay, the next task was to come up with your own political cartoon.

Teenage MultimediaOur video is almost three minutes long, double the time we were given, but it’s worth watching it. This video will talk about how the fashion industry and its involvement with the media. In the video you’ll see Sara and Amber talking about how fashion and the media changed during these years. We also went to ask other classmates their opinion about the topic. The responses were great. They thought that fashion in the media has become a big thing around the world and it has become very successful. Well hope you all enjoy our video.

Model United NationsFor our MUN project everyone had to choose a
country that interest you the most, I chose Egypt as my country. When everyone
was assign to a country we began researching on its historical background and
its profile. When we were finish researching our country, I decided to choose
the third committee which basically talked about the conflict in the Gaza Strip
and the Tibetan Autonomy. When we all had all the appropriate information we
did a resolution that involved our country with the committee we chose. The
both resolutions I completed sadly didn't make it to the docket because my
solutions were not good enough and detailed. Another thing that we all had to
do to prepare ourselves for the conference was to written a General and
Substantive Debate speeches.

My StoryboardThis is the storyboard that my partner and I created. We started with a draft and ended up with this. We put a lot of effort on the storyboard especially on the drawings because both of us don’t know how to draw. I had a lot of fun brainstorming and discussing with Amber how we're going to film or make some animations for the project that we are working on. We had many great ideas and we hope that our project is entertaining and that everyone enjoys it.

Photoshop MastersThis past couple weeks we have been working in groups of three to research a specific CTT that was assigned to every group to present in front of our classmates what we learned based on our research. We also did this to get familiar with Photoshop. On October 15 we started working on our designs for the Photoshop website, we were given an extra day to evaluate our designs before being critiqued by our peers. When my group’s design was fully critiqued, we had more cool than warm feedback, but that helped us a lot because it supported us to make all the corrections that were necessary for our design to be presentable for the finals. We were also given the opportunity to earn extra credit, by posting our final work to our blog, if we weren’t satisfied with our grades.

Inner WarriorThe Inner Warrior project was about learning how to use
Photoshop and create your own cranium-blossom/ mask with digital image that
includes drawings, symbols or anything that describes your Inner warrior. As
you can see I created a mask that was totally different than all my other classmates’
cranium-blossom/ mask. My mask is different because it describes me as a person
and who I am. The purpose of this project was to describe myself as a person
and what makes my Inner Warrior. Once everyone finished with their mask, we all
had to present our mask in order to get to know each other.

Universal Declaration of Human RightsFor this project, each group was assigned an
Article of the Preamble. All groups had to research and investigate their
article more in debt. When the group has finished their research they will have
to have a paper that includes the research and ideas about the article you had
to investigate on. When that is finished, you have to work on your power point
but only utilize bullet point and phrases other than full sentences therefore
on your presentation you can expand your talking points.

The Perfect ClassroomThe Perfect Classroom project was all about learning proportions, how to change inches into centimeters and many other important stuff like how will this affect on your real life career. We also needed to do a lot of measuring and learn how to do a scale and work in groups. We also had to draw the classroom o a piece of paper with all the measurements we got from the classroom.
I thought that the project was a little difficult and frustrating because I had a lot of challenges while working on it. First my group and I measured the classroom in inches when it had to be in centimeters and we had to measure it all over again. It was also hard working with the group because we all had different ideas on how we should arrange the classroom, but after all I was satisfied with the work my group and I did. |
