Lesson Plan
Essential Question:
What are the religious practices and traditions that define Islam?
Objective of Lesson:
After the lesson, the class will understand about some Islamic traditions, specifically their religious beliefs, and their dress code.
Short, direct instruction:
-We are going to begin with a short introduction that will cover most of the information we provide in our PowerPoint.
Introduction: Islam is a major world religion founded in Arabia. Based on the teachings of a man named Muhammad, one who practices Islam is called a Muslim. What is practiced in this religion is prayer, fasting, following the word of Muhammad - which was given to him by Allah - in the Koran, and fulfilling their religious duties.
The Islamic religion began in 622 AD by Muhammad, the prophet who wrote the Koran inspired by the word of Allah. Muhammad was born in 570 AD and died at the age of sixty-three in the year 632 AD. Allah sent an angel,Gabriel, to Muhammad and told him the words and teachings that Allah wanted for his people.
-Once finished with the short introduction we are going to begin with our power point presentation. While presenting we are going to show a video on How the Muslim Prayers are performed.
A text to read and discuss:
-Our handout text is going to be an interesting question and answer article that covers what you can and cannot do once you are married or about to marry someone.
Some multi-media component:
-The multimedia component that's going to be provided is a video of how to make an Islamic prayer and the power point.
An activity for the class that assesses and enforces our understanding of the material you taught:
An activity that we want to enforce is a word search puzzle that includes words that relate to the Islamic tradition, to make the activity more interesting and fun we decided that we are going to give out a handfull of Jolly Ranchers as a reward to the first individual that can find five words.
Closing Points:
-We are going to end with Rachel’s friend’s interview in which she is going to talk about her experiences as a Muslim.
-Thank you for your time and patience and we hope that you’ve learned about the Islamic Tradition.
